Mountains define Nagano, snow-dusted peaks piercing the sky as far as the eye can see. In this sprawling, spellbinding prefecture made up of five national parks, countless pastoral plateaus, and miles of serene pilgrimage trails, it’s strange to think that Tokyo is only an hour to the south by bullet train — the neon lights of the capital have never felt so far away. The people of this prefecture have a special relationship with both the natural, and the spiritual world. They are guardians of the land, and like their ancestors before them, believe in the power of mountains. Here, we meet four local adventurers: Shota Ono takes us out on Lake Nojiri, a deep, mysterious crater lake, where one’s connection to Mother Nature is keenly felt. Kohei Nishida is happiest among Nagano’s ancient trees, following forest trails beneath hundred-year-old cedars and falling autumn leaves. Yoshiki Kuremoto takes to the skies, relishing the power of the wind beneath his parasail, before finally, Tomofumi Takei gives a glimpse into the slower, spiritual side of the prefecture, revealing the harmony between people and planet.

If you don't want the standard Japan holidays, follow me through the Hida Takayama region, also known as the Japanese Alps! This video takes us to the beautiful houses of Shirakawa-go where we take a bicycle tour and learn how to make Onigiri. We then head to Hida where we visit the Furukawa Festival site, check out a traditional candle-maker and visit a Sake Factory. We will take an electric bike for a spin on former railroad tracks at Gattan Go and enjoy a traditional Japanese breakfast. Then we head on to Takayama where we visit a shrine and the old government house Takayama Jinya, before checking out a local market and taking a rickshaw. We will enjoy some Soba noodles, enroll in a cooking class and visit the exhibition hall of the floats for the Takayama Matsuri Festival. Another stop is at the workshop where the floats are being repaired. We participate in a traditional tea ceremony and visit a man who's been drawing horses since the Edo era. last but not least I will show you the Hida Osaka Falls and an Onsen experience before praising the local food and the friendliness of the Japanese. Kamikochi (上高地, Kamikōchi) is a popular resort in the Northern Japan Alps of Nagano Prefecture, offering some of Japan's most spectacular mountain scenery. Kamikochi is a roughly 15 kilometer long plateau in the Azusa River Valley, about 1500 meters above sea level. It is surrounded by tall mountains, including Nishihotakadake (2909 m), Okuhotakadake (3190 m), Maehotakadake (3090 m) and the active volcano Yakedake (2455 m). Part of the Chubu Sangaku National Park, Kamikochi has only been moderately developed with half a dozen hotels, a few souvenir shops, mountain huts and hiking trails. 🔸Private cars are banned from Kamikochi, and access is only possible by bus or taxi. Subtitles are available in English and Japanese. On September 16-17, 2022, my wife and I and her parents went to Kamikochi, Japan. Kamikochi is located on the border of Nagano and Gifu prefectures, in the Hida mountain range within the Japanese Alps. To preserve the rich natural environment, tourists take buses or cabs to get there. The temperature is very comfortable, unlike Tokyo with its severe lingering summer heat. Melting snow water flows into the river, which is very cold and clear. Walking along the hiking trail, we arrive at the Okumiya shrine of Hotaka Shrine. There you will see Myojin Pond, a very mysterious sight with a torii gate in the middle of the pond. On the second day, we took the ropeway to view the mountains. The blue mountains in the distance, seen from a high altitude, are fantastic. I recommend the footbath at the ropeway station. It will heal you from the fatigue of the trip. My wife and her parents are very sweet people. I love to see them enjoying themselves. I want my family to be healthy forever. 望月将悟 無補給415km Trans Japan Alps Race 2018 ～Documentary Film～ 2018年8月12日（日）午前0時。 二年に一度開催される『トランスジャパンアルプスレース（TJAR）』が幕を開けた。 日本海の富山湾をスタートし、日本アルプスの山々や麓の長いロード区間を進んで、静岡県大浜海岸のゴールを目指す。総距離415km、累積標高差2万7000mの道のりを8日間以内で駆け抜ける日本一過酷な山岳レースだ。 このTJARで2010年から4連覇を果たしている望月将悟が、新たな挑戦を決意した。 それは「無補給」。 挑戦のきっかけとなった登山家・花谷泰広とのエピソードを交えながら、まだ誰も見たことがない世界にひとり足を踏み入れた望月将悟の濃密な時間を追う。 6日16時間07分の記録。 Special Thanks TJAR大会実行委員会
When planning our adventure in Japan we knew we could not miss out on a trip to the famous Japanese Alps. We heard of this beautiful town famous for its Hida beef and its proximity to the alps. We decided to stay here and quickly fell in love town! Also the hida beef was absolutely delicious!
Kamikochi is a premium starting point for exploring the Japanese alps. This brief vlog is recorded & edited on iphone, from mine and my daughters recent Japan trip (july 2018). We spent three weeks exploring by train and by foot. So much great info was found online to inspire our trip. Where we found a bit of lacking in info videos was Kamikochi / mountain hiking material. Here is a breif account of our trip, giving a bit of an insight in the terrain and what to expect in Kamikochi. It was an amazing area to explore! A bit out of the ordinary Biotope vlog this time. Hiking in the Japanese Alps will introduce you to the hidden beauty of Japan. The Minami Alps National Park has some of the highest mountains in the country and some of the best panoramic views you'll ever see. Kitadake is the second-highest peak in Japan, Next to Mt. Fuji, Ainodake is the fourth-tallest peak. Hiking Kitadake and Ainodake have stunning panoramic vistas. The peak months for hiking both mountains are in July and August. Kitadake is standing at 3,193m and Ainodake is at 3,190 both are on the list of 100 famous mountains in Japan. Hiking Kitadake and Ainodake will leave you breathless with their superb panoramic views. It won't be an easy hike but the reward is far greater than the hardship you'll experience. Kamikochi is a scenic mountain resort in the Japan Alps, Nagano prefecture. It is different and beautiful in any season, and especially in winter, when mountain peaks are covered in snow. However, all the facilities such as hotels and shops in the area are closed during winter season. That's why many people think that Kamikochi is completely closed in winter, but it's not true. This week, we go deep into the Japanese Alps for three days of epic trails. From dense forests to incredible summits, we soak in the great outdoors one more time before the fall season rolls in. Beautiful Nature In Japan Alps Kamikochi And Tateyama A two day trip to Shinshu area. Day1, We climbed the 3,015m Tateyama but quickly descended due to poor weather and visibility. The weather was unfortunate, but we were able to see beautiful autumn leaves. The first day ended with a visit to the Kurobe Dam at the foot of Tateyama Day2, We walked around Kamikochi. I enjoyed walking in the beautiful nature. In Kamikochi, visitors can walk along the majestic Azusa River and see the active volcanoes of Yakidake and the Hotaka mountain range. Travel Quick Tip: Direct bus service is available from Tokyo Shibuya to Kamikochi.
